Default Mamba Max Pro: How to Open and How to Remove the Fan?

Hey folks,

I can't believe I'm asking such a ridiculous question, but I've got a brand new Mamba Max Pro and I need to remove the fan. In addition, I need to open the case so I can waterproof it and re-assemble it. But I'm having a bear of a time removing the fan OR opening the case! I can see the tabs. I can see how they latch. But for the life of me I can't get them to release. In the case of the fan's latches, they almost look too big to fit through the holes on the case.....but they obviously HAVE to fit.

So is there a trick to doing this? I've used a small flat blade jeweler's screw driver which seems like the perfect tool for the job, but no luck. I admit I'm doing my best not to break anything, but maybe I'm being too gentle? Anyone got any tips?

The only way I've found to do it (and the way castle suggests) is to cut the tabs holding the fan cover.

Really? So I guess the tabs are intended to be a "one time use" type of latch?

I have been trying to take one off. That ruins the fan if you cut them.

On the fan, there are 2 tabs that are on one side that are long, they have a small lip on the inside that clips when pushed through the case holes. Trim these lips off with a knife, lift the one side up and the other side will come out. You can actually trim them at an angle too so they will hold when put back on.

As far as opening the case, peel back the labeling around the bottom. You will see tabs slots in the case, insert a small screw driver and just pop the lip of the tabs over a bit, not too much. Lift the case there and put in a small wedge of plastic to hold it open, move to the next tab, do the same, repeat until the bottom of the case opens.

Hope this helps.

to get my fan off, i shaved a bit of the tabs that locked it into the case. most reversible way i found to do it, that way a drop of ca glue on each one mounts it again. i hear the case is not a fun thing to open up, i think eeepee did it...

There is a "How To" on the Castle website at the bottom of the Mamba Max Pro page in Driving Products:

i used a small flat head screw driver, and pushed both tabs in and up.

it took a little elbow grease and finesse, but the fan will pop off w/o trimming.

Thanks a lot, fellas! I trimmed the clips on the fan mounting tabs and removed them pretty easily. I think I may even have enough tab material left to re-install it if I decide to. The tabs to open the case were rather persistent and took a little more elbow grease than I would've preferred, but I got it open, the board thoroughly waterproofed, and re-installed. Thanks again for all the suggestions!
