What kind of battery, charger and what is your charge rate? Batteries will get warm when charging but shouldn't get hot unless there is something wrong or your charge rate is set too high.

Nimh/nicads generally get pretty warm during charging/discharging at higher amps. How hot is it getting. Can you hang onto it, or is it blisteringly hot? Do you know what amperage the charger is charging at? |

NiMH actually get warm when they have reached peak charge. I have seen lots of onroad guys, 1/12 scale onroad, use temp guns to know if thier peak charge has reached by the temp....not by voltage. If your just now picking up batteries and a charger, start with good batteries from a vendor here (support your RCC vendors) then pick up a charger that will grow with you, like it can charge lipos...you may not want lipos right now...but in the future you might. this way you won't have to spend another bundle....you can pick up good lipos!!!!!
