Default motor problem

I just got some motors acouple weeks ago and have been driving some. There on an xr10. The motors are holmes hobbies crawl masters. the front motor sraterted acting up. I first thought it was a broken gear but the motor was not moving. I took it apart and cleaned it well. the motor works good except it sparks (only in reverse and only at the contact of the brushe and commutator). When going in reverse it wont move at really low throtle. What could be the problem? Thanks for the help

After you cleaned the motor, did you oil the bearings on it?
Did you check to see if the brushes move easily?
Have you been running it in mud or dust?

You got them a couple of weeks ago....were they new or used??

Motors will spark in reverse if the timing is advanced.

Where's the timing set?

I didnt oil the bearings I will. The brushes move easily. I ran in a little wetter dirt but not exactly mud. They were new when I got them

Yeah at 6 degrees advanced timing, you'll get some sparkage in reverse. It shouldn't be too crazy, but some is normal.

Something I'm not sure of is which of those motors in the XR10 needs to spin backwards to drive the truck forwards?

One of them needs to be retarded timed and not advanced timed.

yeah I think its the rear. The wierd part is that it stall under really low throtle. It stalls with no torque.

Somebody who knows motors please help. The front motor doesnt kick in the same time as the rear does (only when going in reverse). I got rid of the sparking but cant get them to work in sink.

Did you think of contacting John Holmes directly? He's pretty good about answering stuff like this and figuring out the issue with his customers....
