| Pin crimpers
Anyone use pin crimpers ? I'm looking for better crimper than what I have. I have the servo city crimper and imo sucks. I can't get crimper to crimp the plug on the wire tight enough. |

I've been looking at getting some at work, however I can't seem to find the information on the size wire, and pins needed... We have a killer selection, but I need to know the sizes lol.

LMK But yea it's comfortable in the hand, has like a ratcheting mechanism, makes it alot easier to get a real tight crimp. I went from needle nose to these and it made a huge difference. EDIT heres a pic Last edited by losikid; 05-08-2011 at 11:13 PM.

I'm using the ~$20 tool from Servo City and I like it. It takes some figuring to get it to crimp reliably, but it's been working well for me.

You need to get the right crimper for the pins you have if you want them to crimp correctly. Very few crimp pins are universal. Most crimp pin manufacturers provide the info you need on the datasheet. For example this housing: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...3-ND&x=16&y=20 Works with these pins: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=WM2510CT-ND And this is the recommended crimper for those pins: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...ame=WM17552-ND When I don't have the right crimper for the pins I'm using I usually just get them crimped as solidly as possible with whatever crimper I have handy and then add a little solder.

Seriously? You guys are crimping? What, why, ? I solder and connect everything! I always thought that it was a better way to do it? What benefits does crimping have ? Ore than being faster |

For someone who is not proficient at soldering, that can be difficult to obtain, so crimping can be a better method in that case. And you still need to fold the tabs over anyway to fit the lead into the connector, unless you nip them off after soldering.

Yep, what CreepyCrawl said. In nearly every other scenario, I will solder, but not with servo wires.

| Crimping is sometimes easier and faster when you are wanting to clean up your wiring.

Crimping is also better for vibration resistance, and in most cases has better conductivity too. Mechanical connection is always better than soldered connection when there is a choice. Soldering is great for preventing corrosion, but it wicks into wires and makes them brittle when too much heat is applied. I have yet to find a decent little crimper. I just buy servo extensions and hack them to my needs. |

I may have to look into getting a set of inexpensive crimpers. I think it would make cleaning up the wiring in my Berg very easy if I could get the correct pins for the ESCs, BEC and Servo. I would only have to have enough wire to reach the RX and could ditch the rest |

I just need to find a smaller tip that better suited for that for my hakko. like losikid said, some times like the servos, I like to shorten up the wiring. I hate bundling wires up.
