Did you scrape the red coating off the wire where it touches the comm tabs? It's gotta be bare wire so it'll make contact.

Just saw this post,
1.Just curious what motors come stock in clods?

2. How many turns are they?

3. Has anyone wound them to a certian # (50,55,60...) and had good results at a certain voltage with a certain size pinion??
Thanks

Sorry guys just found it.... 27T 540. How about Q# 3

If you wind it 50 or 55 turns, it should be fairly similar to a lathe 55t motor. Gearing depends on your rig.

Well I just had to try my hand at this. I had a 55 turn lathe that was running very weak so I tore it down and rewound it with 35 turns of 22 ga. wire. Man it feels way more powerful that my other "factory" 35 turn. Anyway here's some pics and a video comparison. I am going to put this motor in my 2.2

Nice copper saturation! Looks like 22awg was the perfect fit for 35 turns.

Yeah, it almost doesnt fit. I had to wind it twice because the first time some wire was sticking out to far and it rubbed the magnet, then I wound it extreemly tight and managed to get all the winds in. The thing sounds like a freakin jet engine.

Well I took one of those cheap radio shack motors and well, lets say I almost got all of the comm out of the wall. It had 5 coils of wire on it with 70 turns, the wire was microscopic, looked smaller than 30 ga. Anyway I wound it to 4 turns with 22 ga. wire. The package said 24,000 rpms with no load, I think I went well beyond that speed, with 8.4 volts it didn't even spool up all the way before it,,, well you get the picture. Truly awsome, I'm never running a "bought" motor again.

When hitting such high rpms, epoxy-ing the winds and balancing the armature is definatly needed. A popsicle stick can help pack the winds in without harming the enamel coating as well. It helps keep it together and tight.

i rewound some silver cans i had and they worked good at first, but now when i hit the throttle when the wheels are off the ground the front starts turning but the the rear doesnt unless you turn the wheels a little bit and then it turns , their wired in parallel and the rear is wired first, my question is what could cause this?
btw its geared 9 rear and 10 front

Sounds like the Comm or the Brushes are glazed. Take them apart and see if the contacts are shiney and dark. If they are you can sand them with fine sandpaper to clean up the surfaces.

i unwound my 55t lath and i want to wind it to about 30 or 35. i want to use the same wire that was on it before. what can i use to cover the spots where the ceramic coating got scratched off. or is it just not possible to use the same wire?

It is not a good idea to reuse the same wire. I would suggest going to radio shack and picking up a 3 pack of motor/ speaker/ magnet wire. I think they call it magnet wire.

In a pinch enamel nail polish works,a couple of coats over the bare spots let it dry good.

well i ended up buying the wire from radioshack. i wound it with the gold wire( bigger of the 3) and i dont think that its workin too well. it seems to be jittery. what size wire should i use if i were winding a 30t, and what would happen if i accidentaly may have put 30, 30 and 31t on the motor?

Thats the wire I use in my 35t's, it should work if it was wound corectly. Did you set the timming when you put it back together or did you just bolt the endbell back on??
