| Traxxas XL-5 question
Ok guys, got another question for ya. My brother was running a XL-5 with a 27T Axial motor on 6cell Nimh with 2 channel Traxxas Rec./ 3channel traxxas radio. We soldered deans on the esc (i've done it a hundred times, so I know what I'm doing there) we also changed the rec. to 3-channel traxxas (same crystals...installed correct) and tossed in a 800mah 2S 15C lipo... To start, after we swapped the rec. the esc wouldnt work...it would go straight red...put the original rec. in and it would work again? I dont get it? Sooo, after putting the original rec. back in we ran the truck for about 5min. with no issues, then we hear a pop and the truck stops completely. Battery seems fine...not hot, not puffed, wires arent burned...same for the esc...no burnt wires? But the esc isn't turning on at all with my lipo...we havn't tried another battery yet though. I guess I'm trying to understand the deal with the radio when you swap rec. and does that XL-5 crap require a certain constant voltage to operate? Could the motor be too high/low a turn for that esc? I'm the first to admit I hate these XL-5s lol. I have the same issue with my kids Slash after swapping to a spektrum...damn p.o.s. wont work Anyone know what we may be over looking?

Put the NiMh battery back in and see if it works. It's possible that it's the low voltage cutoff. I don't recall offhand how to switch the ESC to lipo mode, but it's pretty easy to do. Here's a youtube video on setting up a traxxas speed control, I couldn't find a really good one for the XL-5, but this one is really similar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwMMS...eature=related Also, I know the Traxxas speed controls won't arm unless they start in the neutral position, perhaps the new receiver is causing an issue there. Or, it could just be dead. |

I put the XL5 waterproof in my SCX10 and have had a few issues while turning on the system. Not exactly like what you're referring to, but It seems that it's really picky on how you start everything up. (radio on/off, battery connected.) |

I like the idea of being waterproof, but I just hate traxxas all together. I've had numerous Slash's when we ran indoor offroad which was a blast, but their esc is just unreliable. We all at one time or another had issues with the flipping things. They would be fine one second then the next they wouldnt work. Seems if you change anything at all or fart sideways the damn things fail. We of course do turn the TX on before the ESC |

First off, crystals....really? Try a quality reciever, doesnt the esc go into safety mode when there is interference( a fart would interfere with a crystal setup) It could have shutdown due to low voltage shutoff did you balance and recharge and try again. Of course your in lipo mode right |
