Default lipo overcharged

so my buddy threw a 3s 5000 on the charger..i guess he had it set to something other than lipo..he,s lucky it didnt catch fire, anyway the voltages are 4.44, 4.54, and 4.48 i said i would try to discharge it on my charger but the charger tells me the voltage is too high for a 3s
my question is can i set the charger to 4s for the discharge..in the discharge i dont know how relavent the voltage is?.maybee i can set the cutoff to 2.7 or around there and try to fool the charger(not a balance charger)..i have a bliky balancer on it now but takes way too long

why not plug it into the car and drive it?
that'll bring the voltage down.

If it didn't puff, just run it in something to get the voltage down. He's very lucky it didn't catch on fire, but since it didn't... and I'm assuming it didn't puff since you're trying to save it, run some voltage off. Do it carefully, and make sure the battery doesn't get hot or puff at all.

The tricky part will be getting it to charge again. I would charge it the next few times in a concrete pit with nothing around that's flammable.

his vxl wouldnt run..it hada code that i suspect was too much voltage..i might try it in my slash im running a monster so the voltage wont be a problem..im just a bit worried it might go up, i guess i can bench run it without the pack strapped in
thanx

Like others have said run the pack a bit to bring the voltage down then take it easy on it. Maybe run a discharge/charge cycle on it and keep an eye on it.

I've had packs that were under voltage and wouldn't charge as a lipo unless I put them on the charger as a MH pack for 5-10 minutes. They've worked fine since. Over voltage is probably much more dangerous.

hmm, im looking at a pack i own same pack and mine is a bit smaller..hmm the pack is puffed, it still looks square though it didnt puff in the middle it just got a bit bigger..oh well i think its more trouble than its worth
ya i gave him hell..lol he is very lucky, he had the charger on pb i,ve been running lipo for 5 years and never had this problem, i,ve recovered some from overdischarge..his vxl wouldnt run it had 2 light lit up and i,m assuming it wont run over the 3s or i would of tried to run it down..i think i,ll be leaving it outside with a blinky on it
thanx

if you do cycle the battery I would charge it in one of those lipo safe pouches just in case something happens. Im suprized the battery didn't swell up and cause a fire. But I agree to run the pack on a vehicle to bring it down, but I wouldn't hammer on the throttle til you get it in its safe zone.

ya i think even if i did get the voltage down this pack is not going into his slash 4x4..too much load on a damaged pack and it has puffed about 1/4"+ but it symetrical..kinda had me fooled till i compared to one of my packs

The middle cell can swell and the pack will look the same. Lipo is one of the best advancements to the hobby to date, but also one that can burn your house down.

When you see him next, kick him square in the balls for being a dumbass. Nothing teaches people better than burning a house down, or being kicked in the balls.

On another note, I just got done burning my house down. Send me free shit.

well the blinky balaced the pack overnight amazingly enough so i think i,ll try cycling them under a 10 amp load and .5c charge and see what happens..me thinks i,ll do this outside
