Default Make your own Motor Spray

So, after numerous people asking......and some complaining about the price of motor spray.......

Here is the cheap way, taught to me by Big Jim Greenemeyer. Only reason I ever used commercial cans of motor spray is because I was lazy and had plenty of money....

So, first buy this...

http://www.amazon.com/Green-Billet-A.../dp/B002D3WXMU

there are other brands, the eastwood one is really nice but pricey.

Then buy some of this, available at ANY Lowe's, Home Depot or any Hardware store worth a snot.

http://www.amazon.com/Klean-Strip-QK.../dp/B000QD9S0O

And if you don't already have one, buy one of these...(on sale too!)

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-gallo...sor-95275.html

probably worth getting a water trap so no water gets in the can why you pressurize it.

Now, before anyone argues about using mineral spirits..............they have been used in RC and Slot cars since the dawn of both.......the only disadvantage is they take a little while longer to evaporate. Buy a $5 spray nozzle for your air compressor and blow it out afterwards.

One big can of this stuff is about 10+ cans of motor spray........at $6 a can on motor spray, do the math how quickly this stuff pays for itself......plus you can use it to clean all sorts of other stuff. Just remember not all plastics like Chemicals.

Enjoy...

Doesn't that take a replacement charge or can you fill the pressure with a compressor?

A replacment, but it's worked well for me for quite a while and still cheaper than a bottle of motor spray.

If it lasts a while, yeah.......still better than a can of motor spray...an ex-employee of a unnamed company once told me their cost on motor spray was less than .50 cents a can........the can itself was more than the fluids......

Thanks for money saving tip(s)!

By the way, my brother used to be in sales and cost of no-name 2*AA battery is $0.01 in bulk.

Any recommended alternative for bearing oil, grease ?

I'll have my bearing oil up in a few days, I don't charge much for it and one bottle lasts forever. The needle tip bottle is really what you are paying for...

I know Big Jim just used Mobil 1 engine oil.....just got some super thin stuff....funny part was he told he bought a trinity bearing oil just to dump the oil out so he didn't have to use a trinity product...

Hey eddie, just wondering if in your opinion is using electrical contact cleaner like this http://www.crcindustries.com/ei/cont....aspx?PN=03070 is it safe for use in motor cleaning? I get this stuff through work and it is cheap just wanna make sure it wont do damage to the comm and brushes. I've used it on my blitz motors and had good sucess but I'm hesistant to put it on handwounds. Thx for your thoughts man. Kurt
