Cool deal, you'll like that radio.

I still run my Magnum Juniors in my 12th & 10th pan cars & buggy.

That picture would be even more embarrassing if not for the 4PL in it. I am sure all the AM radios said "ooooooohhhhhh" like the little green aliens from Toy Story when they saw it.

I could go a few better, I still have 2 original (& still working) Futaba box radios. They are aluminum with a goldish textured vinyl covering, front mount steering wheel and a spring loaded switch on the side for throttle.
I used them back when speed controls were like slot car resistors. They were in my RC 12e pan cars (actually still have one......)

I was thinking of the Monty Python line when the French soldier tells Arthur they already have a Grail... it's very nice.

King Arthur: Go and tell your master that we have been charged by God with a sacred quest. If he will give us food and shelter for the night, he can join us in our quest for the Holy Grail.

French Soldier: Well, I'll ask him, but I don't think he will be very keen. Uh, he's already got one, you see.

King Arthur: What?

Sir Galahad: He said they've already got one!

King Arthur: Are you sure he's got one?

French Soldier: Oh yes, it's very nice!

I used to be like you. Nothing wrong with the AM stuff, then I switched to 2.4 and the cars felt like they drove so much smoother. That reason alone is worth the switch IMO
I'm sure you will love that radio and everything it has to offer. I wish I went with it sometimes but I am still happy with my spektrum.
