Default waterproof brushless.

What really makes the vxl motor more water proof over other brushless motors. I pulled mine apart the other day. Only big difference is the plastic cover over the wire tabs and rear bearing. Also on the esc how does the sensor port work. Everytime I try plugging a sensored motor into it the motor acts like the sensor is not there. Cogging extremely bad untill it gets rolling.

In general, what makes a brushless waterproof is the lack of a sensor. They don't really like to get wet, the rest of the motor really doesn't care.
As to the sensor port, what ESC?? Some don't play well with other brand motors. If they are both Traxxas bits (ESC & motor), maybe the sensor is shot.
