anytime my junk gets wet it loses reverse, no loose wires or anything like that.

my main question is this- is my motor sensored or sensorless? total noob i know.how do i tell and what is the waterproof situation on this setup, says it is all waterproof, reason i went with it, lotta mud and water in sw florida.

any other ideas or comments accepted.

sensorless.

Maybe it needs a good cleaning.
Could be the ESC though...

that's what happens when my VXL-3s esc gets wet also, it loses reverse until it dries out.. But then again mine isn't the newer waterproof version you claim yours is.

sum have gaskets and or o-rings to seal the case. Maybe you have a dry rotted one that needs replaced.

I'm having electrical issues now too.
I drove through a pond a few days ago and while in the water, I have no reverse but everything else works (steering, trans shift servo, forward)... as soon as I'm out of the water, everything works.

VXL system on 3s.

I'd check to make sure no water or moisture is getting into your "sealed" radio box. Although it has a rubber grommet around it water can still get in from the foam section (where your wires go in) so make sure to regrease it everytime with either vaseline or white lithium or some sort of dielectric grease.

As far as the ESC goes...mine went haywire the first year I had my Slash PE. Traxxas kept saying it was my radio blah blah blah. Basically it would go into full throttle reverse but I still have steering control to flip it onto its lid so it wouldn't crash into anything.

Then I sent the VXL ESC it to Traxxas for repairs. And yes they made me pay. F U Traxxas. This was a problem from day one.

IF I buy any Traxxas products now I sell off all the stock electronics including their crappy servos.

my rx box setup is as follows
rx wrapped in balloon
balloon ziptied\silicone\ziptied
placed in rx box
rx box siliconed around seam-making sure to keep it in it's groove-put the big lid on and routed the wires out the foam seal
siliconed the little foam seal and then coated all seams and bolt holes allowed it to cure and then
another balloon\ziptie\silicone\ziptie around the whole box.

major overkill but if it does it again i know it is not the rx.
have not had it in the water since, but soon.

I have this same problems also and I have Marine Grease around the bottom of the ESC. I may try to dip everything but the fins on the VXL3s and see if that takes care of it.

It's bad marketing. They're not waterproof, they're water resistant. I work at a Hobbytown and I've been through this many many times with customers.

VXL system on 3s.
Is that whats in the foff? Has the vxl been holding up to 3s pretty well? I was under the impression that they overheat alot.. Or did you gear the shite out of it?

I was thinkin about gettin one of those Rustler VXL's for a fun/fast basher/racer type deal.. Those things on 3s is insane but, i dont know if its good for the motor/esc.

No, I have a Mamba Max and cm36 5700kv in the foff.

The VXL was in Buxom Melons up untill 2 weeks ago. I ran it on 3s every time I took it out, all day... for about 6 months. Drove it under water almost everytime too. It never overheated or gave me much trouble.
Also, I think the revers issue came from Heyok's bec or winch controller because it went away after I removed that stuff.

I aslo have a VXL Rustler that I ran on 3s for a couple years... I think that motor needs rebuilding though because I let it sit for almost a year and now it's not as fast as it was.

The Rustler vxl was in the foff in my first video, before I swapped in the Castle set up.

I did when I got it... just didn't have enough places to really run it. I mostly flew around a hospital parking lot with it.
