My Esc problems.. I think

I have a SCX10 TR all stock with the Ae-2 esc. I thought the motor was going bad because after a normal run it was cutting out like it was freezing up but after playing with the battery wires I noticed that would cause it to turn off then back on (bad ground somewhere I though). I took off my balloons and played with the esc wires that connect to the motor, got it to start working (but still stopping up like it had a bad ground somewhere), and now its done. Servo works fine, receiver was ballooned seperatly so it should be fine. Motor spins fine when it works. Anyone have any ideas, or just confirm its the esc for me sort of a beginner thanks.
