Default Did my esc take out my lipo or lipo took out the esc?

I was driving my MRC normaly like I had been for a few days Im using a mamba micro pro with a stump puller motor and sky lipo 40c 800mah 2 cell 7.4v when smoke came out (I think from the esc i had the top on) so I stopped and turned everything off. I noticed the lipo was puffed to double size so i unplugged it quick ran for gloves and got it out of the truck. It didn't explode or catch fire luckily. Was it the esc that took out the lipo or the lipo take out the esc? I know they are cheap lipos did that bite me? Now the esc has no forward just reverse. Castle link hooks up fine and everthing is fine just no forward. Its a brand new esc and the lipo has been used maybe 5 times. I hope I can warranty the mamba. Any thoughts on the matter please help.

Sounds like the ESC took out the battery, but your guess is as good as mine when it boils down to it.
