Default Spiffy XR10 Electronics shrinkage

Here is another build thread for you folks to see my work. This is to promote my custom electronics soldering/wiring side gig in the link below.

Today, I did a full wire job on a buddies XR10. Gave the Mamba Micro Pro ESC's what I call a "Super Smash". Turned out pretty decent. Let me know what you folks think. The pics aren't the greatest. So sorry about that.

Custom Soldering/wiring

As I got it

Electronics yarded

Once I de soldered everything, I bent the cap on one of the ESC's, to accommodate for the heat sinks to mesh into each other. Then I soldered a jump lead to the power terminals.

After some measuring, I cut and tinned all the wires, and soldered em on. Then I shrink wrapped them together.

BEC attached, then test fitted to the skid.

This is something I think is kind of neat. A way to shorten the servo lead, without breaking into the case, and hopefully not voiding any warranties. I cut the wire to where it needed to be. Pulled the pins, and then soldered directly to the pins. Then re-installed the pins to the housing. Worked out kinda slick.

Then, everything was neatly installed, motor leads soldered on, and zip tied up! I used 3mm bullets, and nice American made 18awg wire. The 3mm bullets are almost the same diameter as the wire, so it looks real clean.

Nice job Chris. That setup looks super sweet. Do you need the cap on both esc? I see some people only running 1

For shortening servo leads I purchased this kit from Hansen Hobbies. It comes with a stripper, crimper and servo connectors.

That's just plain crazy, nice work man.

I'm curious though, do you anticipate any heat issues with the sinks crammed together like that?

I suppose it all really depends on how you drive it. But all in all, there is not a lot of air flow in the chassis of a crawler anyhow, seens how they dont go fast enough to get more than a light breeze at best. So I would guess it will make next to no difference

That's a good point... Hope you don't mind that I'll probably be stealing a couple of your wiring ideas when I finally get around to rewiring my junk

Is the BEC wired directly to the servo via a Y harness?

The "super smash" look good, Where do you find shirnk wrap big enough to fit over the esc's? The biggest I've seen are for the ni-mh stick packs.

Yep, A home made version of this:

I have a wall with shrink wrap from 29mm all the way up to 138mm here at work. The shrink I used for them was 48mm for the ESC's, then 56mm when I shrink wrapped the BEC on.

Dang it you beat me to it. After seeing your fxr's I had this in mind for my micros. Curious about the power leads on the bec are they soldered to the back of the esc or are they just soldered to jumper wires that go to the power leads from the batt. Awesome job

Any updates on how this has held up under driving in terms of heat?

I did someting similar on my rig. I pushed two mamba's together but found it easier to stick them with the capacitors on opposite ends to get the wires coming out the right way. I did not instlal the bec the same way as my bec is setup differently.

I went to run it for a bit tonight and when I got done I put my finger down on my esc's and they were hot. Went to grab my heat gun and my esc's were at 130. I only ran for about 5 minutes but I am in Dallas where it is 198 degrees in the shade.

198 deg in the shade. If your speedos only made it to 130 consider your self lucky.
