Default extend bec wires?

I need a few more inches from my BEC wires in order to mount the electronics where I want them.
Can I just clip the red and black wires and solder in a few inches of wire to extend them?
I tried a servo extension that I had but it didn't work... maybe it's bad or perhaps it didn't work because the rc4wd winch is a motor and not a servo?

Extending them should be fine, just be sure to use the same, or very close to the same, gauge of wire.

+1.
Use same or larger sized wire (same or smaller "ga" number).
As to your comment about it being a motor and not a servo, servo's have a motor in them, so basically the same.
