HH vs CC and VXL

I'm looking for some advice.
The current set up in my 10lb SCX w/Summit 2 speed is a VXL on 3s.
I've been running it TTC's and recently a G6. During the TTC's I often wanted a drag brake... during last weeks G6 it was an impossible course without drag brake.
And, since my esc is acting funny...

I'm currently looking at the Mamba Max Pro and some brushless motor. (sorta what I'm used to)
or
The Holmes Hobbies BR-XL and 14T puller, which is what John recommended to me.

I've never run a big brushed motor and I'm just wondering how the performance stacks up... to the VXL.
I'm assuming that the low end will be much much better and the drag brake will work.

But how will the 14T do on top end speed?
I'm willing to give up some of the top end speed... just not all of it.
I never get full throttle on this rig unless it's in the sled pull or mud runs in low gear or sometimes bashing in the park in high gear.

Will the 14T (on 3s-6s) be close to the VXL (on 3s) in terms of top speed?
I know it's an apple to oranges thing and I've read lot's of stellar reviews on John's puller motors but they generally don't cover speed.
