Default need a good and cheap servo

i need a good and cheap servo for my rig. right now i am running a hitec hs-625mg and i need somthing with a little more torque. i was thinking either a traxxas 2075 or a tower pro MG995

servo

hitec hs-625mg 0.18sec/60* at 4.8v 76.37oz. at 4.8v
traxxas 2075 0.17sec/60* 125oz.
tower pro MG995 0.17sec/60* at 4.8v n/a

which of these three are the better choice for crawling. the tower pro mg995 is a great servo because it has the same speed as the traxxas 2075, it has all metal gears, and the price is insane $10 with no tax and free shipping, and ive used it in my slash and it worked great. any way i just want someone elses opinnion on which of these three servos is best for a crawler.

I don't have any experience with any of those specific models, but I swear by Hitec. Also, for a crawler steering servo, you want to get as much torque as possible - generally a good mark is 300+ oz if you can afford it.

A good servo is one of the things I think it's best to go ahead and spend a little extra money so you don't end up replacing it down the road.

Sorry, but good and cheap don't go together with servos. Or most electronics for that matter.

The Traxxas units, at least all the ones I've had, have plastic output shafts that easily break or strip. I've killed several 2055's and a couple 2075's in their stock applications, much less under the stress of a crawler without a servo saver.

The Towerpro servo isn't the one of yesteryear that was actually pretty decent. They are all garbage now with only the name remaining the same. Search on Ultimate RC's youtube page and you'll see the Jang explain it all.

The Hitec 645 trades a little speed for more torque compared to the 625. I have four of these and while they are reliable, they lack torque with anything bigger than a 4 inch tall tire. I stripped the gears out of one after a years of abuse in a stock AX-10. If you want really cheap I believe that the gearset, which is about $16, from a 645 will fit into your 625, making it a little torquier and slower.

I run a Hitec 7954SH in my AX-10 and SCX and while they are kinda pricy at about $80 on Ebay, I can honestly say that they are worth it. You will have so much torque you'll have to relearn when NOT to steer for risk of breaking other parts of the truck. Both have been super reliable, with about a years worth of abuse on the AX, and going on three monthes of submersible expeditions in the SCX.

For less than $50 you can get a Hitec 5645MG or a Savox SC-0251 (make sure it fits your application as it is about 5mm taller than most servos), both of which are quality products.

Good luck making a decision and for your own sake, don't cheap out.

If it doesn't have metal gears then don't bother. Plastic gears strip easily enough as is, even worse when crawling.

This is about as cheap as I would go for a servo:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXUZ89&P=ML

Torque and speed are lacking but it will get the job done.

Next step would be:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXUZ80&P=ML

a little more torque and it's digital

then there is:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXXPM0&P=ML

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTHR3&P=ML

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWCE6&P=ML

Servos aren't one of those areas to cheap out on. It will cause you too much pain and suffering to be worth the few dollars saved.

But check out the size of that servo. Not going to fit most crawlers. 2.29x1.10x2.05

Standard servo is 1.54x.76x1.52

Everything these guys are saying is true, If your going to be crawing in comps you'll need a powerful servo AND a bec to go with it. You don't need speed just lots a torque. I use a Hitec 7980 thats over 600 oz/in..
look for one thats at least over 300oz/in. otherwise you'll just be burning the servos and your cash.

i run the traxxis 2075 on my rigs but i would like a little more torqe plus i already stripped the gears in one after 3 months of abuse.so the 2075 prob not the best choice.

I ran a 2075, from my Slash, on my scaler because I stripped it's Futaba. The 2075 got hot (130 degrees) with only a few minutes on a small rock pile in my yard.

Save up for a high torque servo, it will be well worth it in the long run.

not really looking to do comps just need a servo that is right around that ckrc special servo that i found for $20 and has 208oz. of torque, that should be plenty of torque for backyard bashing

if you still want to run a 2075, try this little gear mod

I run Hitec. Best servo to use. Maybe look into Futaba or JR. Though I do not know what all is out there at the moment.

You might think you find a deal on ebay or somewhere for a good looking servo but you will just be out that much more money whereas you could have put it to a good servo to start out with.
