Default Axial scx-10 not turning

Today, my neighbor gave me his axial scx-10 before he goes off to college and he got a new spektrum receiver/servo and it doesn't turn. it is all wired correctly and everything and i dont know much about rc cars so i was wondering if it is the receiver or a servo problem?

Do the throttle functions work, forward/reverse? I'd check the trim adjustments on the radio. It could be possible that the wire leads for the ESC and Servo are on the wrong channels, or the plus are rotated 180*.

well, the forward works all the time, but the reverse is iffy. it goes in reverse after a couple of times of pushing the trigger forward. but i dont know anything about the wiring so ill just have to go to the local hobby shop and get them to work it. but thanks anyways! if you can explain anything more about how to fix the wiring to the ESC and the servo that would be great!!!
