Default good bye fx-r

I bought a fx-r and I'm alittle disappointed. Everyones build up on the fx-r in my opinion is over rated. Its a good esc but I guess I was expecting something more :-\. I think I'm gonna give holmes hobby a try with there puller combo and use the fx-r for my sand buggy build.

No point in this thread beside just alittle bickering

I like mine, though I'll be going to H.H. soon for the hold. What didn't you like about it?

I could really care less about the topic but if you are going to complain about something you should at least give some details other than its overrated

I'd like to know your complaints also. I have both the fxr and the holmes. I like both of them. In IMHO the biggest benefit to the fxr is it's size. It's probably almost 1/2 the size of a brxl. Which is very important in some of the tiny MOA chassis around.

+3, in what way is it lacking, in your opinion? We like feedback.

The drag brakes just aren't up to par. Obviously motors and other pieces along the way play a part in this, but the FXR on the same rig will not hold where a BRXL...OR even a Mamba Micro Pro will. The Castle programming for the drag brake and smoothness of the slow speed is second to none at this point. The Holmes Hold isn't absolutely necessary in most rigs...the standard drag brake will lock down like it should.

If ya'll could work on those two areas I'd definitely be interested in coming back to an FXR and see what you can do with it.

Ty, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. After reading some of this members other posts. It seems that they really need to spend more time reading and asking questions.

My opinion of the FX-R is absolutely 100% happy. It does what it is supposed to do and oppperates flawlessly for every application I needed it for.
I notice with a lot if people that they really need to understand their radios as well.
I have a spektrum and as john from holmes can verify, your FX-R and a 13T HH when tuned right has the holding power of George burns on Viagra.
I am looking forward to your T4 when its released.

And that's not boasting. Its fact! Tekin puts out amazing products and amazing support.

Typical "fix" for low drag brake is to increase the brush tension (heavier spring or longer brush) or to tighten up the pinion mesh.
True, not all ESC drag brakes are the same.

I obviously don't know his issues but here were mine:

The drag brake was always an issue and I could never get it where I wanted it even with different motors.

I did not like having the capacitor mounted externally like it was.

I do not like solder posts.

It's a good solid ESC though. I had no real operational issues other than the drag brake and ran a 27t on it with 3s and no issues for a while as well.

The Tx programming with LED's is also very well done. I never used the hotwire so I can't really compare it to Castle Link.

I now have the holmes BRXL and it is perfect. Of course it is built specifically focused on crawling and scalers.

Ty, I thinks it's excellent you are interested in the feedback. Many don't feel this way. In my opinion you and Castle are at the top of the game like Toyota and Honda, can't go wrong either way. Not taking feedback from customers is one of the things that turned me off several years back to the little orange guys. That and the fact CC and Tekin is light years ahead of them.

I love my fxr's,I have one that I started this hobby with in 2009 and she is still working hard for me. I must agree,I dont care for the capasitor, but it can be installed cleanly.I have never felt like the brake hold of the esc let me down.

I have noticed that when its time to clean the comm. the brake gets weak, maybe your motors need a cleaning.

Hey, I'll buy it.

Have two in an MOA and one in a shafty. The drag brake holds my 6.5 pound Bully on any incline with dual Tekin 55s, can't ask for more. Easy to program, easy to solder, and a capacitor that is so small it almost isn't there. Smallest footprint of a cased ESC, just a little larger than Novak's capacitor.

I do have two CC Sidewinders but I'm not very impressed with their quality and performance. Oh, they'll do well enough for bashing around with scale rigs but are a real PITA to program without a link, they are huge (looks like 25% is capacitor), drag brake is so-so even when set to crawler, still need a BEC for 3S, but they do have good CS but then so does Tekin.

That's how it gets its small foot print is cause a big part has to be manuely mounted on the out side. In my opinion tekin and HH are the top you can get. HH you can not find in hobby shops (from what I've seen and heard) but tekin stuff you can which can be a big plus. If a water proof version was made it would be amazing. Maybe if the fx-r came pre wired it would save the customer some head and hassel. To me add the water proofing and pre wired and ill buy for life lol. Heck add $15 on the price and ill still buy.

Maybe make no external parts too
Amazing product though
