Default Looking at upgrading to Lipo

Few questions that I havent been able to answer with the search.

I believe my charger of choice will be the Thunder AC6, seems to be the one thats decent and doesnt kill my wallet (especially since I just bought an Onyx 200 less than 2 weeks ago).

Anyways, my motor/esc set up is:

Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL
Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Pro Handwound 35t.

This will be going into an SCX10, no competitions or anything, just backyard driving. Im looking to have a bit of wheel speed, but I realize this is a crawler, not a short course truck.

From what I understand, the higher the C rating, the more current can be passed out at one time (IE, higher C rating, better acceleration for lack of a better term). Is that correct? If so, is there a limit to how many C's I want. Is something like 55c absolute overkill? What is the general accepted C level?

I think I am going to shoot for 3000mah, good middle ground pack? Im thinking any higher and I'll hit some weight issues.

I believe Im going 3s, although I think it looks like the Holmes BR-XL can go up to 6. Is there any reason to go higher?

Thanks!

I've found that a 35c battery works well with all but the most power hungry ESC/motors. The BRXL is a great ESC, and a 35t motor is a perfect starting point. A 35t on 3s is perfect for a scaler, but with the BRXL its nice to know you could throw in a 4 or 5 cell lipo and really rip. A 3000mah battery should work well and give you 1 hour + of runtime depending on your trigger finger. Sounds like you are on the right track!

+1, sounds like a decent start.
On the mah question, keep in mind a couple things:
1-All your money in a pcak sucks when it dies and you don't have another one (thus, buy 2 smaller packs).
2-The time changing packs gives the electronics a chance to cool off.
3-Smaller packs are easier to fit into any rig.
4-A 35C rated pack is good for most applications

I run 45C 3S 1350mah packs in a 2.2 MOA running 35T brushed motors. I have enough in a pack to run 2 5-6 minute courses with lots of loading.

I believe the spec on the brxl is 80A continuous so if you get a 3000mah pack 80/3=26.6c. I'd go for a 35 or 45c pack.

I've got a couple of 3000mah 2s packs for my son's scx10 and like them. They are reasonably light and last long enough for us.

Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Lipo's

Ended up with:

Thunder AC6 Charger

2x Sky Lipo 3000mAh 40c 3s

1x Sky Lipo 3000mAh 40c 5s

3 Lipo Storage/Charge bags

and also grabbed 16 rechargeable NimH's for my radio and one more Receiver for the GT3B.

Good selection? They didnt have any 35c's, so I figured higher is better than lower. I picked up the 5s for when I want to run higher speeds, and also to eventually drop into my TB-01 and future Wraith kit when its available.

Go gentle on the throttle with the 5s or it's bye-bye gears and driveshafts

Here is the thread I started when making the same decision. A lot of good information in there I thought. To LiPo or not to LiPo

I ended up with 2 1300mah 30C sky lipos and I get an easy 30-45 minutes out of each of them. I also got a 2650mah but have yet to run it because I have built a mount for it. I'm guessing it will be around an hour 15-30minutes runtime. I have all stock Honcho RTR elec.
I ended up with a Onyx 235 charger which works fine, but doesn't have a storage charge mode. That is one option that would be nice. I just set a battery profile at about 40% and it seems to come out about right. It does have some other nice features though.
