sounds like thermal shut down to me is your drive train binding any where if not try different gear ratios you might be running the motor faster than the esc can handle with that gearing

it can overheat if the gear ratio is too short?

take the motor out... can you roll the crawler freely?

and if your motor has high rpm and low torque, but it is forced to give out torque i.e. geared too high, very rough terrain, etc , then thats going to overheat

I ride with my sand rail (traxxas bandit trans gears 90/24) panther tires 2.2. By hand it runs well but the ecs heater even though I always down the gear ratio, I ride on the beach ,the engine itself is not hot : Cry:

TOOO HIGH OF GEAR!

Optimal gear ratio is Either the 24-27t Pinion and 76t spur Gear. FOR THE

BRUSHLESS SET UP:

If your running brushless and have the 86-90t spur gear, you have to drop your pinion too 17 or under to prevent over heating!

i found this out with my slash, I was geared too high and had it shut down on me. all so check the TRIM on you radio

how is the "optimal" gear ratio going to be better than his 90/24? a 76t spur with a 24-27 pinion is an evwen higher ratio which would be worse. the motor would also be overheating if the gearing was way off. for brushless motors/esc the temps should stay around 150 for the motor and as cool as possible for the esc. you should lower the pinion to say around 20t and see if that helps
