non rc batt. question

OK, my little girl has a Canon Camcorder. She lost the cord to charge it. Went to Wal-Mart today to get an universal cord. The problem, the camcorder says 8.4v. Looked at the batt. It says it's a 7.4v 850mAh (Li-ion). The cord has a variable switch to change the voltage. It goes from 3v, 4.5v, 6v, 7.5v, 9v, 12v. The question is, will the cord work to charge the batt.? I don't want to smoke the camcorder or the batt. I know to make sure to get the polarity correct. Can I put the voltage selector on 7.5v & charge the camcorder without screwing it up?

Not saying you should do it, but a 7.4 lithium battery actually charges to 8.4 volts....so you would need that much voltage at least to get there.

The fact your charge cable doesn't offering 8.4 volt is concerning......was your product listed as being compatible with it?

Try to google it....

Can you remove the battery? If so, charge it on your RC charger for 2S LiPO/LiON. I use small test leads to connect my Venom ProCharger to camera batteries, old laptop batteries, etc. I have found that a hard discharge followed by a 1C charge can bring a lot of them back to life."thumbsup"

There wasn't anything listed on it. Think it's just a power cord. Thought I could use it as a charging cord. Is there a differance between a power cord & a charging cord? Hell, I don't know. Just a dumb hillbilly. :lmao:

Normally a power cord is just that, it supplies power.
A charging cord has some of transformer/voltage regulator in/on it."thumbsup"

So, I need to take it back & get a charger cord? Think it would be cheaper & easer to just get a new camcorder. Maybe I'll hide & say she lost it in her room. Momma & I are tired of going in there & cleaning her room just to have her mess it up AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN!!! Where can I get a universal charger cord? I aint gonna use my batt. charger to charge her camcorder.

Amazon.com.

I broke the charger to one of my Cameras once (an Olympus 1030sw I believe) and checked out Amazon. Had a new one sent out within a day, received it within the week.
