Default Motor cuts in and out when submerged?

I waterproofed my Losi using a traxxas 2075 servo, XL-5 ESC, and a balloned reciever. The esc and reciever ride way up in the body and never see water that deep. I run my rig through creeks all the time and never have a problem out of it untill the motor is submersed, then it cuts in and out until it is out of water and has spun off the water in it. What is going on here? I see people all the time on youtube running totaly submersed with no problem. I am using a 55turn closed end bell motor and ni-cad battery.

How old is your motor? Brushes could be sticking due to crud being washed through the motor.

Nothing to do with your motor, but NiCD batteries are generally not fond of water.

Make sure to waterproof your battery and all the connections too. I used liquid electrical tape to seal up any holes and on the battery. Not holes but I mean were ever the plastic would let water in.

+1...my best suggestion.
As to your batteries, as mentioned anything but LiPO don't really like to get wet.
From your description, I don't feel it's a battery issue though.

A brushed motor should run fine in water, people used to (and sometimes still do) break-in motors by running them in water to seat the brushes.
