Default Another how to waterproof brushless sensored motor question

I recently picked up a brushless motor and esc. Ive done so many search but cant seem to find the answer. Can i run this motor in the water? Will it be okay to get wet since its sensored. If so, how can I waterproof it if ever its possible. Ive been reading that its a no no to dip in the water but hey worth asking questions since the answers are not too clear. Thanks in advance and please dont bash me for not searching because I did and its just that the answers are not getting into my head for ideas.

I had a novak HVpro and waterproofed it by taking it all apart, carefully coating the sensor ring with liquid electrical tape and putting it all together. Worked fine. Others have used corrosion-x (i think thats the name) its like a spray bomb clear coating. Without doing that, you do risk a short in the sensor harness.

Motors CAN be run in water (brushed and brushless), but, the sensor on sensored brushless motors usually don't like getting wet.
As mentioned, there are a few different ways to "waterproof" them. Keep in mind this is not an exact science so you may miss a spot that still causes it to fail.

Most ESC's need some sort of waterproofing, either a coating (grease, spray, paint) or a container (box, balloon, etc.)

There is a sticky at the top of this forum specifically covering waterproofing.

What are you waterproofing them from? Reason I ask is simply you won't have problems with casual splashes, puddles, road spray or snow. It's only an issue if you plan on submerging it. My speed passion cirtix motor has gotten all sorts of wet and it's still going, I've just never sunk it in a pool like I have my sensorless.

The sensor is about all that needs to be waterproofed. They can look different between brands, but it has the small sized wires off it that go back to the ESC, NOT the heavier wires that feed power. It is usually a small circuit board type item.

got it thanks for the help guys. Pulled apart the motor and I saw right away what you guys are talking about. Liquid taped it last night and put it together in the morning. I took a glass of water and no mercy style just dipped the sucker in ther and pulled trigger and it worked fine. Tried running it for lunch and it ran fine. next up esc.

I used the black one so it dried out black. The led's on mine are on the bottom part and still shines pretty bright. I didnt notice any difference because when it got to the led part I kinda covered it lightly.

Yup! Its not too bad. Get the white ones most likely itll show a little bit more. Thanks for the info on the motor got that done tested and it runs. BTW would you happen to know to remove the bearing on the back side where to connectors are at not on the pinion side.

Well it depends a bit on which particular motor you have. However if you reove the rear end bell you should be able to get it out. Probably by pounding it out with a hammer.

Took out the motor for a test run and. . .. perfect. Dipped the whole truck in to where only the roof part shows and everything still works great.
