Default Motor/Spur/Pinion Advice?

Edit: If this is in the wrong forum, please move it as I wasnt sure which forum it should be in. Thanks.

Hello RCC!

I'm putting together a 2.2 Tuber and I had a couple quick questions regarding a Motor/Spur/Pinion combo that I'm trying to put together.

I have my axial trans setup with a robinson 32P 56T Spur and im interested in the Holmes crawlmaster 13T motor.

What pinion would go good with this setup?

If the stock axial setup was 87t/14t that would be a 6.214 ratio.
So, if i went with a 56t/9t setup, i think that would be a safe place to start with it being a 6.222 ratio.

It was recommended to me that I start with the smallest one i can get on there, and then gear up from there. If im not mistaken, a 9t pinion is pretty small. Do you think thats a good place to start or should i start even higher than that?

What do you guys think?

-Rick

That's a good place to start. I believe my rtr came with a 20T pinion, I ran it for a while but noticed the esc get really hot so I swiched down to 18t pinion and 87t spur.
So you might be able to go a little higher but keep an eye on the temperatures until you find something that works for you. Pinions are cheap so experiment with a couple to see what you like the best.

That sounds like a great start. I'm currently running a 54t spur and 11t pinion on my Axial Dingo. I prefer a little more wheelspeed than stock. Pinions are cheap....experiment .
