Default lots of cloggin - Tekin RS & Holmes Crawlmaster

I just got this setup in my rig and I seem to be having lots of clogging issues with it. Running a Tekin RS esc with a Holmes Crawlmaster motor and a 15t pinion on an axial tranny (87 T spur gear). I am running 3s lipo.
When I first get on the throttle, I get a whining/screaming noise from the motor especially if I am trying to get going when the motor is under load - i.e. up against something) and I've gotta play with the throttle to get it going. Once the rig is moving there are no issues what so ever.
I am new to electric and this is also the 1st sensorless brushless motor I've ever run. Would dropping pinion size help cure my issues? I was thinking of dropping to a 12 T pinion (gotta run to the hobby shop 1st). Or should I look at the ESC settings (I have the hotwire for the ESC).

Clogging.

Cogging is the word.

The problem is the sensorless motor. Ah yes, brings back some memories of the screeching and stuttering, and cogging. Yes, smallest pinion you can fit, but it still won't be perfect.

That's what I thought - the smallest pinion i can get is a 12T - gonna try that as I do find that the rig does have a lot of snap with the 3s in it and I could stand to slow it down also.
