Default My battery arcs when I plug it it, am I doing damage?

Running dual fxrs, a cc bec and a 3s lipo with deans plugs.
Every time i plug the battery in it arcs at the deans plugs, am I doing any damage?
Maybe if I run an on/off switch on the bec along with the switches on the fxrs?

Just curious,
Thanks
-Matt

That is normal, don't worry about it. It is the capacitors charging up.

I no it's not harmful and it's normal and all that, but I've tried hooking up my deans at an angle when installing a batt. for example approach with the Neg. side making contact first and then the pos. I've noticed less popping (arcing) this way. It doesn't take a lot of angle, just touching one side slightly before instead of both simultaneously.

hope that helps

You get a better spark using bullet connectors.

Not a problem it's just the capacitors saying "I'm here for you."

I get a nice spark along with the "pop" sound every time I plug in 6s. But never much with 3s.

Holy crow, 12s must take a wicked expensive charger!

I try to plug the negative bullet first to reduce arcing.

You should see the arc on 20s lipo. That is what my ebike runs. With normal power capacitors it is pretty loud. With a larger bank of low ESR caps it will pretty much destroy a plug in one shot, so we have to use a precharge circuit to avoid such welding events.

Here is a ride on 18s. Holmes Bikes 66v ride - YouTube I killed that battery by leaving it plugged in by accident, drained it to zero. So now I ride 20s.

Any bike with a Ammo Can bolted to the handle bars is ok in my book.
