Default esc problem?...maybe

this is probably an issue that no one has ever had......i'm running a stock SCX10 honcho on a 2s lipo. these are the symptoms.....sometimes:

- connect the batt and only steering responds, no throttle
- I fiddle or tap the esc, or manually roll the truck forward a few inches and then there is throttle response
- at times, there is no response from the throttle even after continuosly reconnecting the battery, powering on and off, or trying the above techniques.
- lately the problem that is occuring is that it responds to the throttle rolling a few inches but then dies, yet the battery is still giving power to the lights and steering
- after getting tired of this, I'll go back and reconnect the battery 1-2 hours later and it then it runs...as if nothing ever happened.

any ideas? greatly appreciated - thanks

When you say "no throttle", do you mean the motor won't spin, or that the ESC lights go off??

If it's the motor won't spin, could be:

-Hung brush
-Short brush (it gets cocked sideways and acts like a hung brush)
-Failing motor winding and if a brush lands on it when stopping, the motor won't move until another comm segment is under the brush

The 1st 2 items can be fixed by maintenance or motor rebuild, the last is fixed by rewinding the motor or replacing it.

If it's the ESC lights go off, it could be:

-Failing ESC
-Loose ESC connection (internal or external)
-Possibly using Tamiya connectors that have finally started to die, they won't pass current to high load items like the ESC
-ESC needs to be recalibrated

Have you tried a different ESC to see if it still happens?
Have you tried a different to see if it still happens?
Have you tried a different battery pack to see if it still happens?
What radio are you using?
What ESC are you using?
Does the ESC or motor get hot when this happens?
