Default drag brake comparisons?

I have 2 scalers. one has an fxr, the other has an ae2. I really like the fxr's drag brake and have found that after programming the ae2 to full drag brake setting that the fxr still edges it out on brake power.

i'm thinking about replacing my ae2 because it is actin up on me and i already have to replace my stock axial 27t motor because i kinda fried it.

I am just looking into a few of the common esc's and am wondering which have the most powerful drag brakes? i like the fxr's brake but wouldn't mind having a slightly stronger brake for my cherokee because it is quite a bit heavier.

mostly looking at holmes hobbies/castle/novak/tekin.

any experience you can share?

Holmes BR-XL has the strongest drag brake by far, none even come close.

what he said

I've run sidewinders for a while too, and their drag brake isn't bad, but I'd imagine it's close to the same as the FXR, and not even in the same playing field as the BRXL

that is good to know! the brxl isn't too pricey either, which is nice. what about roosters or goats? anybody know how good those brakes are?

Nowhere near as good. Holmes beats all and I have owned pretty much all of them at one time or another.

Plus the BR-XL can take up to 6S lipo, much better onboard BEC(good enough for all but the strongest servos), fully adjustable(thr and brake curves, lipo cut off, punch control ,etc), and much better customer service(he is right here on the forums).

It's a win-win situation. I would look nowhere else but Holmes.

The internal BEC on the BR is 6v @ 5amps, plenty for most servos. If you are running over a 300 oz servo, a comp rig, or like to run higher voltages to your servo, then run an external BEC but on a scaler you should be fine. What servo you running?

The BRXL has one of the best (if not THE best) internal BEC's we use. It depends on the pack you run as well as the servo, but a lot of the time there is no need for an external BEC when running a BRXL.
