Yep, with a new arm you will need to break in the brushes to seat properly on the comm. Might as well throw in some new brushes too. If it is standup brushes you can run the motor for about three minutes at 2-4v depending on motor wind and it will be ready to go. 2v for fast motors, 4v for slow motors like a 55t. Laydown brushes will need a brush shaper for 10mm comms, or else about 30 minutes break in time without a break in solvent. One trick I have seen is to knock the trailing and leading 25% from the laydown so that it breaks in faster, and as it wears it gains more power as the full face of the brush contacts the comm.

Cool!
Thanks for the fast response. Should i do a water break in? I don't want to F these things up.
Also, does the armatures come with shims or should i use the shims that were already in the motors.

I pulled my TM apart last night and decide to order some new standup brushes this morning. My armatures should be here today or tomorrow.

Shims come with the motor arm. Don't worry about water break in, it isn't needed.

+1, a water break-in done wrong is about the fastest way to FUBAR a motor.

I'm lucky, I got my LHS to start stocking brushes again as they had stopped when most customers switched to brushless in "go fasts"....

BTW, Lynnwood.....in WA?? I have a large customer site there and I'm there about once a year.

I didn't know about break-in when installing one of your Crawlmaster/16s in an AX10. I just ran it around the house for a few minutes on 2S. Is there anything I should check to see if things broke in correctly? I have a couple dozen packs on it by now, so no sense in breaking in again.

Lynnwood isn't that ghetto......well wait, when I worked at Car Toys when I was a 20 we actually had to call the cops on a drunk customer......

Now the real question, are you a Silvertips fan or Tbirds fan....

Later EddieO
