It has to be set at 7.4v. It is 5v out of the box. You need castlelink to program your voltage. |

I thought the whole point of the newer "high voltage" servos was that you didn't need a BEC, you could just solder them straight to the ESC's power wires, saving you weight, and simplifying the system a little.

| Yes, you can. But your torque output changes as the pack voltage runs down. Most of the BEC's will maintain a constant voltage & amperage regardless of the input voltage (within reason).

| The purpose for HV servos is to get more torque and/or speed. The purpose of a BEC is to ensure that your servo has power when your rig gets into a bind. |

| On a 1/5th scale gas rc this is ideal...but in our world its for more torque and speed as already stated. You still want a bec, or you'll be loosing like 30% of your torque and speed. between full charge and low voltage cut off

I've never had an issue running my servos straight of the battery. If you set your BEC to 7.4 volts, then even with a fully peaked 2s lipo your running less voltage than straight of the battery. And once the battery gets below 7.4 volts the BEC can't increase the voltage back up. So I don't see the advantage to running a BEC as long as you exclusively run 2s packs. I guess my lipos dump so fast I can't really tell that the steering is loosing power because the LVC in the ESC cuts out first. |
