Default looking for high power servo

I'm looking to buy a new high power servo. Something that can run off 3s and give me a lot of torque for out crawlin. I tryed lookin to see what people are running but I think I keep asking the wrong questions. So if you guys could throw some suggestions at me that would be great.

Alot of guys run the Hitec 7950's That have about 480 oz of torque and can handle 7.4 volts. They are pricey though over $100

Is there any way to get a solid crawling steering servo without dropping that crazy of money. Just seems unreasonable to pay 100 or more for a servo

It does. At least, it does until you realize you've blown through $100 worth of cheap ones that have either fried, died, broken or smoked. You get what you pay for.

+1, plus once you run a 7950, you'll wonder how you managed with so little steering torque before..... You can get a 7950 for ~$120 from Servocity, they pop up on sale now & then.

NOTE: most of these servo's run 7.4 volts max, get an external BEC (like a CC 10A BEC) and run it direct to the servo. Anything that may run straight from 3S is likely a bit big to fit into a rig.

For a little less $$, get a 7955.

To answer the 3s question, I havent seen any that will do 12v the high voltage ones will run off 2s.

DelMonte said today his 1.9 servo is running 12V. Dunno the model but it's wicked fast. And a cheaper but still quality alternative to the 7950 would be the 7954SH. It will run direct-connected to a 2S battery, but would require a BEC if running 3S.

Do I need to run a BEC on a 7950 with just using a 2s lip battery.

No, it is not necessary. You can just solder it straight to the ESC's power wires.

I'm running 7954's in my Axials after killing some 645MG's. Seems like big money, but with the power and durability it is worth it IMO.

No, but.......a good external BEC keeps the voltage to the servo constant. Running direct off the battery pack means the start of your run the servo gets high voltage, later the voltage drops as the pack voltage drops.
So, ask yourself this, "Do I want consistent steering power during a run, or am I happy having it vary?"

I agree..The money spent on a 7950 is so worth it.
