new motor+ESC problem
 
i just got a reedy radon 17T motor and digital esc off ebay i got them in and installed on the stock reciever for the axial wraith. Took the truck out turned it on the esc made a constant sound unless the trigger was moved it went forward 5 ftt then stopped but went in reverse like normal operation but wouldnt go forward and the noise stopped a few seconds the noise returned and i could go forward but only a few ft before it would do the same thing it goes in reversw like normal all the time. The esc light goes out after a few seconds then comes back onand works like normal then turns off again battery is fully charged and tm is working normal. thx for the help any that you can give is appreciated.

ok i got the esc and motor working now thx to some guys off BYT but now the car goes fwd in reverse speed and vise versa any ideas?

Change the direction of Ch. 2 (throttle) or switch the motor wires."thumbsup"

Did the ESC come with a programming card?

Those motors are locked in advanced timing and aren't adjustable.
So when you flip the wires and/or throttle position on the radio it will be running retarded timing, which is bad news. It will burn up the motor pretty quick.

ok so what am i suppose to do to change the speeds the throttle reverse makes the fwd trigger go back wards and vise versa changing the wires around does nothing i put a different motor to it and it does the same thing so i know its the esc and there was no program card that i got with it.

Pull a differential cover off and verify if the truck is assembled from the factory correctly (differential ring gear on correct side of pinion). Compare it with what your instruction manual says.

If it is on the wrong side, you will either need to swap the differentials around and risk running into the short shaft issue, or just get another motor that can be reversed safely.

+1, easiest thing to do would be to flip the diffs.

Big question is did the truck perform normally before the motor esc change?

the car performed perfect until the esc died which caused me to get new it was a RTR wraith everything ran smooth so i know the diffs and everything is in correctly. The new esc is now the problem i hooked the old motor up to it and it did the same thing so im having esc issues i contacted associated and they are telling me to do what i have already did and axial wont return my email cuz im pretty sure the old esc is still under warrenty.

It's not necessarily assembled "right" from the factory. Mine was a RTR Wraith and it had the differentials installed backward

Only time I found out was when I went to install a new motor as well.

Check the differentials and I'll bet yours are "backward".

It will have acted "normal" for those months. Axial assembled some of the Wraiths with the differentials reversed and the motor reversed.

I suspect this was in an effort to get around the short shaft issue without issuing new axles.

Check your differentials.

When you installed the new ESC, did you calibrate it to the RX?
You say "digital ESC", is that the brand? If not, what is the brand & model ESC.

So I installed a XL-5 esc on my Crawler king and the esc is backwards, it is no problem I just reverse the wires with the 21turn titan 0 degree timing motor, but when i ran a 17 turn radon it was noticably slower forward than in reverse, hence why I went with the titan motor, but THANK YOU..

All I gotta do is flip my diffs... Awesome "thumbsup"

How quick is "pretty quick"? I had the same motor on mine last night.

Do you think one 9.6V battery pack of ripping around with it reversed killed my motor? It was so friggin hot when I was done, but still wicked fast til the battery drained "thumbsup"

Most likely the exact the length of time yours took to cook.:lmao:"thumbsup"

Retarded timing does very nasty things to a brushed motor, and even worse with relatively high voltage like you were running.
It would have been even faster if it was running the correct direction."thumbsup"

Heat KILLS the magnets, it's also hard on the comm. You may/may not notice the difference after the overheat, but you lost some performance.
To answer your question, a lot depends on the size of the pack. If you ran a small pack, the motor just got hot. If you ran a high capacity pack, the whole motor is throughly heat soaked and damaged the magnets.
