| batteries and esc's???
kinda of a noob question. (correct if i'm wrong) A battery is just a battery whether it be lipo, nimh, lion etc. right? so when you hook it up to an esc. all the esc will read is how much voltage output that battery is giving and it can't really tell whether it's lipo or not. The only problem is that lipo, lion needs a voltage cutoff so it doesn't go beyond recommended voltage, so therefore you can use any battery on any esc. as long as you don't go pass the maximum output that the esc rated for right???

in a word....yes, as long as you don't go over the voltage the ESC can handle....but are they the same....no. whats your problem?!? |

not much, it's actually a couple of guys in our group are arguing one day about an esc that's not lipo capable can't handle lipo, even if it doesn't go over ther required voltage of the esc. I've used lipo on all esc and never had a problem. I just mainly want to get a second opinion.

A battery is a a battery and the wax doesn't care what type it is. If you know your equipment you stand little risk of letting your battery get too low if there is no cutoff internal to esc.

And you are correct, the biggest thing a "LiPO capable ESC" gets you is a built in LVC (low voltage cutoff). You can either add an external one or just notice when the "punch" has dropped off a bit and swap packs.
