| Noisy Puller Motor
I have a puller 500 motor that come with my second hand sportsman rig, when I try to run it freeload, it is very noisy at low rpm and suddenly the noise goes down at some point near mid-hi rpm. Is it normal or something I should be concern of? |

The motor may need shimming, or it could be your ESC making it noisy. Does it shake a lot too, or is it just noisy?

No it just noisy not shaking. BTW does the 500 puller use normal brush or special one. As you can see I am quite new to this crawler thing, but have already owned some of your products (3 motor and 1 ESC) based on the excellent feedback I got from the crawling circuit here in WA, Australia. Keep up the good work, its not often that the owner of the company answer your question in the public forum. Thanks again.

The 500 puller does use a special brush. It is the same as the 454 puller. Sounds like it is most likely the ESC causing the ruckus. If you can change the ESC frequency or try a different brand it could give some insight on what the problem might be. I would have guessed bad bearing but they don't shut up at higher speeds. |

All my pullers and all the ones ive seen have made a special noise only exhibited by them. They sound like a angry tiny machine when they run. All mine have had a "smooth" spot in them where they were kind of quiet it is usually just under half throttle. It is the only motor I can always tell 100% of the time when someone is running one. I ran my 6t on 4s in my losi and when I would hit full throttle people would always look around to see what that crazy noise is. I always thought of the loud noise like running dual pipes and headers on a nice street motor. It lets people know you have balls under there.

My 7T Puller whines at mid throttle/RPMs. I always assumed it was the combo of the motor and ESC which is a CC Sidewinder (v1) but I can't prove it since I never tried other ESCs.

On the full size puller it is a combination of the switching frequency and the PWM frequency. In "quiet mode" with my ESC the Puller will make no noise. In nornmal mode it gets really noisy at half throttle, which happens to be a 8,000hz waveform chopped in half. Or about 16khz to your ears.

| Yes. Half throttle emits a 16khz tone? I think you can watch the armature move a little in conjunction with the change in tone. It's been a while since I seen it in my hand, so I could be wrong about that. And I think you can feel the vibrations change in the can while holding it in your hand. |

Tried on both BR-XL and CC MMP, about the same noise.

Yeah, it is an interaction with the drive frequency and the chopping frequency.
