Default velineon giving up

i was wondering is it normal for the velineon motor to give up on mild climbing. ill be trying to climb, the rig will start shacking and then just rolls back. I know the motor sucks on rock crawling but is this normal?

I had the same luck with mine, the esc would go into thermal shutdown when I tried to crawl with it. I had it in my wraith geared 80t spur, with 16t pinion. I chucked it, went back to a 35t brushed on 3s and haven't looked back. I wish you better luck with yours. Cheers.

Was yours a brief moment or did the esc shut down completely and had to turn it on again?

make sure your battery plugs are good. I have had them shut down on jumps in the SC trucks because the battery connector was loose.

What rig?
What motor?
What battery (type & # of cells, "C" rating if LiPO & capacity)?
Is the ESC or motor getting hot when it does this?
What battery connectors?
What servo?
Do you run an external BEC?

I've got 2 VXL systems.
The older one, pre waterproof, is a dog... it needs rebuilding or something. It used to run good but it's getting slower...

the 2nd (waterproof) really performs. I had it in my Summit trans SCX10 and it could climb, pull the sled and kicked butt in the mud pit during a few TTC's... basically it did everything I asked of it. No drag brake sucks though. Here's a video of it in the SCX on wet rocks.

Really sounds like cogging from a non-sensored motor. You could try a sensoered motor with the velenion esc, but a Mamba Max Pro or Tekin rs. Is a much better esc.

OK, it appears your pack is decent and you're not losing power through the connectors.

DOes it happen on other packs?

Does the motor or ESC get warm/hot?

Does the steering quit when the motor quits?

Still wondering if you're browning out the RX.

The servo is kinda amp hungry to run off aa velenion. For an experiement, try no touch the steering wheel and see if does it.

The shaking still sounds like cogging to me. Are these mild climbs at slow speed and little throttle input?

actually its not on slow climbs
ill be hammering it down to get up, cogs, then hammers down again, then just stops. ill let it roll down a little then try to climb again

Maybe double check the wire and connections. Making sure all is tight and no bare wires can touch each other. Maybe tug on the wires with it running in the air.

I think it's the motor... sounds like my first one. Seriously, the vxl should tear up hills. If it's dying mid climb w/full throttle... it's gotta be the motor or batteries. btw, I was running a 270oz servo straight from mine w/no issues.

It finally gave up on me. So now I got a new velineon system and it works good on 2s but On 3s it will be fine then no throttle then after a min or two it would start working again

It's a brand new VXL ESC and Motor and it's not working?

Did you by chance solder your own battery plugs? Maybe the 3s has a short.

Yes it's brand new. And the battery is brand new too.no I didn't chagr any plugs. I'll switch the batteries to 2s and it's fine. But on 3s it will work fine then no throttle. Then it will start moving again

Sounds like it's overheating and doing a thermal shutdown.
Running 3S and no BEC with a 7954 will likely do that, get a CC 10A BEC and run it direct to the servo.
