| Stronger gearset for Hitec 7954SH?
I managed to strip out the only plastic gear in my 7954, and before I pony up $40 for a gearset, which is half of a new servo, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a stronger gearset for this servo. Or if one of their Titanium geared servos had interchangeable gears. I emailed Hitec, but they just told be the part number for the stock gearset. I searched, but didn't find anyone else stripping the stock gears in the 7954. Does anyone have one of these and a 7950? I'm curious as to how the two stack up side by side. And is the 7950 worth the extra $50? Thanks for any help or suggestions. |

I've heard the 7955tg gears fit in the 7954...i've yet to confirm yet as i haven't had time todo a gear swap in mine. I'm pretty sure its true though, as a 7954 is simply just a motor that can handle the extra votls the 7955 can't. |

You know, I was looking at getting the 7955 because of the titanium gears, but then I saw that it wasn't rated for higher than 6.0 volts. So that lead me straight to the 7950... I guess I'll order the 7955 gears and see what happens. Running a Savox SC-1268MG in the meantime and although strong, it has less holding power and runs hotter than the 7954SH. |

like losi kid i've heard that the 7955 gears fit the 7954, I never had any issues with the steel gears in my 2 7954's when I had them however. so under the circumstances I believe that it is worth trying for sure. |

..why not just send the HS-7954SH servo back to Hitec, I believe they will send you a new one for free...as what others have done..

they all have the plastic gear. I have had both servos. And stripped the plastic one in both, ti and steel servos. The plastic gear can be bought in a set of three for 9 dollars. Hope this helps |

Which is exactly why its a waste of money to buy the ti servos, they all have one plastic gear. Last edited by holycaveman; 01-03-2012 at 09:15 AM. |

7954 users watch out for the third gear from the motor to spin the pinion in the ring gear. If you have the same problem i did call hitec they sent me a new one with no hassle.

Hitec is awesome! Bad motor's or fried boards, no question replacement/rebuild.. Case's and gears, aren't a shoe in.. They are a case to case(no pun intended) situation.. Even after the 3yr warranty, they fix it! As holycaveman stated, the very first gear off the motors pinon, is "plastic".. Even in the 7950 & 7980.. It's a " failsafe", if you will, type of thing.. Tho I have never had one fail in any of my dozen or so Hitec servo's. Even after the output bearing came apart and the ti gears chewed the bearings up! But that's just my one instance I can speak of.. By far, not a "waste of money" to buy the ti geared servo's.. Most of the servo's rated for 7.4v are 2s lipo compatible. Which means they can take 8.4v without issue. I run my 7950 and 7980 on 8.4v.. I have returned a couple 7980's tho.. Not sure it's the voltage or what but just putting it out there. Then again, I have bought All of my Hitec servo's (which are Only 7950's an 7980's) Used... No receipt, no proof of age, no questions asked, returned, refurbished and mailed back to me! |

I spun a pinion of my ring gear. Ordered in a set from the LHS but I came across two part numbers for the gear set. One set has holes drilled in the gears and the other does not. Conveniently one is also more expensive HIT55321 - Gear Set HSR-5980SG/HS-7954SH @ Great Hobbies HIT56377 - Gear Set HS-7954SH Steel @ Great Hobbies Any idea why there is two different sets? |

I can still remember how peeved I was when I broke a new 7954 on my new-at-the-time Wraith kit on the very first pack. That was almost three years ago and I started this thread. Well, I broke 2 more 7954's almost immediately on the Wraith. Then tortured a Savox 1268 for a few weeks, and a 2270 for several monthes. Then the Wraith sat for months while I saved money for a Hitec 7980 which has been installed for over a year now. It pains me to think of how much I would have saved if I just sprung for what-seemed-like-overkill-at-the-time. Maybe it's just my luck, but I sent Hitec 3 7954's and 2 645's for service, with receipts for three of them, but two of them had been filled with dielectric grease. They denied warranty on all of them, refused to send them back so I could at least use them for parts, but offered to sell me replacements at slightly higher than street price. I was less than impressed. So I was nervous when I had to send in a two week old 7950 about a month ago. They replaced a "damaged" amplifier and sent it back with roughly a two week turnaround. I'm not sure as to why there are two sets of gears. Thats a good catch. I personally do not prefer my gears to have speed holes though. And the 7955 gears do fit the 7954, but if your talented (read: abusive) like me then you still strip the MK gear. They sell them in 3 packs for a reason apparently. The 7980 may well use a plastic/hybrid first gear but it is not the same as the 795* series. I managed to smoke an icy ledge and strip out a Robitronics horn, and the 7980 survived! |

Interesting. My 7954 has the "newer" gear set in it. Previous owner didn't mention anything about blowing a gear set plus it seems to be a more expensive set. Anyways I have what seems to be the original gear set without holes on the way. In the mean time I am cleaning up the rig. We had some warm weather today, shame I couldn't go out and enjoy it | |
