| charging question
Ok I have 2 max amp 6500 lipo 2s 7.2 volt on the pack it says charge at 6 amp. The guy out LHS says to charge at 3 amp? Is there any reason to charge at 3 amp? And I just placed an order for a thunder ac680 charger will I need any thing to be able to charge the max amp packs? Lipo virgin here |

Most packs can charge at "1C", which for your 6500mah packs = 6.5amps. The 1st charge or so I usually do at a lesser charge rate then the rest of the time at "1C" balanced, just something I do. Some people say that charging at ".5C" will extend the life of your LiPO packs, I haven't had LiPO long enough to know whether or not that is true. As to those packs vs. that charger, I don't know what style balance plug the packs have nor do I know what style balance port is on the charger. Maybe someone else will chime in. |

Nope, just charge them up since they're used. As to replacing balance plugs, it depends on what they are. Usually a decent LHS will have them, but not always. If you have a bunch of the same mismatched balance connectors, you can get an adaptor to go between the pack & the charger. |

I suggest the Elite packs from CheapBatteryPacks. Quote:
As to the AC6, yes it will charge a LiPO, not sure what connectors it has or balance port type.

Ok so I chatted with a tech person from hobbypartz and he said that the balancer board for the ac680 has jst-xh plugs here is a pic of the plug on my max amp lipos Next question is that the correct plug for the balance board? If not what do I do? |

I believe the JST plug is also called an "Align" plug, maybe Chris from CBP can chime in, or others but your pack has a different plug, maybe it's a Thunderpower type?? If I am correct, you can usually get an adaptor cable that will plug between the pack balance connector to the charger balance port. |

You can try this link, see if yours matches something.....CheapBatteryPacks - Lipo Tap Plugs I've requested better pictures of the 3 types to make it easier for people to identify what they have/need. Front view & top view pictures. If you find something, I suggest you buy from CBP......please..... |

If the jst is the same as an align plug, and the plug on the max amp is thunder, then they make an adapter. However there sold out anybody want to make one for a perfect gift to me??? |

Patience is a virtue I wasn't born with lol, Gonna be hard not to charge and run them when I get my charger lol. So just charging one time shouldn't hurt anything? Only got to see the summit run for about 2 mins when I got it in trade and I really want to see what she will do lol. |

*theoretically* slow slow charging once without balancing won't kill the packs, but it isn't a risk I'd want to take personally. A.D. |

I would do the first charges @ .5C, thus a 2000mah pack would charge @ 1A for ~2 hours. Last edited by Charlie-III; 11-29-2011 at 09:34 AM. Reason: Added charge rate info.
