No, I talked to Spektrum and I was told that there wasnt demand for it. So I organized a thread, spektrum pres even stopped by and still nothing. That was almost 2 years now.

Last I talked with Prod Development, they told me they were looking into a 5ch surface, but I haven't heard anything since and with Comp crawling slowing down, I don't see the demand being high enough for them to really justify the extra uses. But Who knows, I'm kinda surprised they they told me that much, generally they are pretty tight lipped about stuff.

I'm new to the crawler scene but after I used a buddy of mines DX3S I wanted a Spektrum radio and since I will be starting a SCX10 build this spring I wanted to use one to control it but I need 4 channels (front steering, throttle, lights, winch) so unless they come out with one soon I will have to go with a different TX/RX.

For people looking at demand, keep in mind, the initial set of prototypes of a new radio such as this will cost of 500k after R&D and injection moulding moulds are made. Then probably another 100k-200k to get the initial 1000 units out. Now this is for a good high quality radio |

i've been thinking about one of these for awhile. just ordered an ax10 so all my electronics from my honcho are going in that and the stock ax10 crap is going in the honcho but since the honcho has a plow i want to mount a 2nd servo so i can angle plow left or right.... im using my winch to lift the plow but i need a 4ch receiver to power my steering, throttle, winch and 2nd servo. guess maybe if i win the lottery next year i'll buy a fancier tx/rx. |

I wouldnt hold your breath, even if they did come out with it the programming would suck and it would be overpriced.

i gave up on the notion that they would offer anything truly crawler friendly. i was a spektrum fanboy but i've moved on and got a futaba 4pl.

Personally I prefer the Futaba's feel and responce to my DX3R, Spektrum just got up-staged and under priced IMO.

How about a 5 channel surface. Build em and they will come. This is one I put together for my Super. Did one for JOYSTICK also. JC |

DX3 with a Losi 2 channel in the back. 2 Rx's, yup, and they work great. JC and the JC is just my initials |

Here's a pic of the back. and 1 of the side. I put in a BEC to run the losi Tx with the same battery pack in the DX3. Like I said, works great. JC |

| Observations of a Carpet Race
You say there is no demand and I get that in some ways as our crawler crowd is a bit limited but I was recently at a big carpet race at Mikes Hobby Shop in Dallas. Some guy, who is apparently one of the best national carpet racers was there crushing guys and he was using a Futaba 4pk. I would be willing to guess he was not using all 4 channels and he might have been sponsored by futaba but he was still standing before God and all with a 4pk. Lets be honest, we are all gadget freaks and if a quality 4 channel exists, we are all prone to want the latest and greatest even though we probably won't ever use it to its potential. Part of the reason I got a spektrum was simply the cool look of the dx3r. For my MOA I went to a 4pl recently and have loved having it, and at the cost it puts spektrum on the endangered list. |

So there's no demand for more than 3 channels. Spektrums quality radio is their 3r pro... Now extra channels and such, is mostly just programming and adding a few switches as long as the main cpu can handle it. My best guess as to why spektrum won't go more than 3 channels is because they want all their features to be user friendly. and when you start setting up channels, mixes, mapping switches, etc. It can get confusing. | |
