Default Steering servo for Wraith

i have had my Wraith for about 5 monthes (outta commision for one) and the steering servo is not moving the front wheels like it used to. How long do they usually last and whats the best replacement for it? Thanks in advance for the help.

My RTR servo lasted almost 2 battery packs. Must folks like a 300 oz servo on a wraith. I personally prefer a 400 + oz servo on a Wraith. Check out the Wraiths beginners guide & some Wraith build threads. There is some really good info out there.

I don't know how long the original servo will last, there are many factors that will determine this.

If you up the torque, you will likely need an external BEC when you get near/over 300inoz.

If you run a Holmes Hobbies BRXL, you can get away with just it's own internal BEC.

I use the JR9100T in my Wraith. You can use it without a BEC if you choose, and it doesn't cause any problems. It's a really strong servo and reliable. I've got 4 or 5 of them and I've never had one fail. Two are almost 2 years old.

Mine has had about 10 packs run threw it. its starting to get weak and the horn has alot of side to side movement in it now. Going to get a servo of atleast 300oz but probably get a 400oz one.

You WILL need to add an external BEC if you do 300inoz+.......

+1 on the external BEC, when I installed my last servo, I unplugged my CCBEC Pro just to see what would happen. My 416 oz. Savox browned out in less than 30 seconds! I have used an external BEC for the last 2 years or so, looks like that will not be changing!

I've had great luck with the T-Pros from hobbypartz they've got plenty of torque and they center pretty decently.

HiTec 7955....anything above that will need an external BEC.

People may laugh but if your looking to save some coin.. Get a Towerpro 996R from Deal Extreme or eBay.. Mine was $12.50. They have metal gears and are rated at 208oz at 6volts.. The stocker is around 130oz I believe... I run my 996r on a castle BEC at 6.7 volts and it's awsome. ( i dont think you're supposed to run more than 6volts to the 996 but whats to loose?) A bit slower and not as quiet as my Hitec 7954 but I paid $100 for the hitec and I know I question why it's so much when the 996 has been so great . The 996 feels almost as strong as my 7954. I know the 7954 is better, but for the $$$ spent, the 996 is a winner in my books.

What determines if it needs a bec or not? I would like to get a replacement servo for my wraith without needing a BEC

Upping the torque output of the steering servo the internal ESC cannot supply the proper amps for the higher torque servos.

So for the wraith any servo with more than 132 OZ of torque will require a BEC? If I purchase a servo and bec how complicated is the install 1 to 10 ?

I do not have one yet, but I have read alot on here and it seems like the Solar D772 is a good economical choice.

No one is making you do anything. But it is highly recommended as it takes the load off of the ESC and Receiver and puts it directly on the BEC. Your steering performance will be alot better.

I have just gotten mine and I am awaiting on my Solar D772 servos in the mail to put them in. I set the voltage to 7.5 because that was my option for the solar.
