im switching to lipo

i got a losi night crawler with a traxxas xl-5 waterproof esc(not the lvc model) the truck has a traxxas stinger 20t motor and i want to switch to lipo, im thinking of going to a 2s 7.4v lipo and keeping my traxxas esc and i just want to see if i can do this, my scaling buddy has the same non lvc xl-5 esc and he is running 2s lipos in his scx10. can this be done?

Can it work, yes. But you should get an external cell monitor or cutoff so you don't overdischarge the pack.

isn't that called a external BEC or something. im not smart on this stuff so i need help, a link maybe helpful

A BEC is to drive a servo.
There are external LiPO voltage modules (to read cell voltage) as well as external LiPO cutoff's. Either of these is what you should get if the ESC does not have a built in LVC (low voltage cutoff).

Common Sense RC - Lipo Alarm - Low Voltage Lipo Buzzer

This will buzz and flash when the lipo gets to low. You dont want to discharge your liop to low. This one is expensive but I don't trust the cheap e-bay ones. With crawling you only need the buzzer but with SC I like the light so if I miss the buzzer I can see the light. Or the other way around.
