Default I'm about to start hitting it with a bat!! Please help!!

I bought a Tamiya CC-01 for $100 used. it came with traxxas 27 mhz trx and rx and xl-5 esc. it had a burned up motor. also came with 2 rip max batteries with 4500 mah, i measured the voltage it was like 9.7 or something. the only thing i could read on the label was #.4, the first # was missing. i bought a off brand 34T plane motor to use. it got REALLY hot and poured out smoke. the range was also terrible, like 10 feet. i bought the flysky fs-gt3b trx and rx. got it today and binded it only to find that it is virtually impossible to engage reverse. ive been running a 7.2v traxxas battery since the smoking episode. can anyone help me out? the motor is still hot but not as bad.

are you useing the right pinion pitch?? they are metric and only a couple of manufacturers make metric pinions..

second, 34T in the CC01 is way to fast for this little guy...I have a 60T in mine...course not knowing what your going to use it for...you might be racing it...if thats the case, the 34T might be just the ticket

the battery..guessing its a 2S lipo..that would be 7.4V...7 is the missing number.

Did you bind the radio to the esc??? might be why you have reverse problems.

take all the electronics out of the rig and run them, every thing should be nice and smooth..then check and see if there is no binding in the gearing of the CC01..that might be the reason its getting hot.

Also, this should be in the CC01 thread

All good advice above. Sounds like quite the mix of electronics. If you do beat it with a bat take some vid and post it please.

the battery is Nimh and registered at 9.7 on voltmeter. where would i find the procedure to bind correctly? Because it does work, the reverse works, but you have to tap the trigger quite a few times in order for it to engage.

Sigh, I really feel for you & can understand your frustration.

OK, so you bound the RX & TX. You also need to calibrate the ESC to the RX (may fix some of your other issues).
A plane motor is relying on massive airflow to cool it due to vehicle speed, you don't get that in a crawler.

Sounds like the packs you received are 3S LiPO's (based on the measured voltage), or are you running a different battery chemistry??

Please, feel free to post back to this thread, we will try & help you out.

Addition: do a Google search for "XL-5", see if you find a manual. I also see you have NiMH. A lot of ESC's also have an option for "instant reverse" which is what you want.

The XL-5 isnt the best esc although it will work...The double tap reverse is in the ESC not the radio and I dont think you can turn it off. Try a motor for a surface vehicle, that should help. For cheap motors integy is hard to beat just dont buy anything else they make!
