| Receiver Dead after liquid electrical tape
Hey all, I have been trying to improve my waterproofing technique. I was bored and had some spare parts around that i decided to experiment with. I disassembled a cheap-o AM receiver and coated the internal boards with liquid electrical tape. I let it dry and now it is completely dead. This has worked great on both a servo and an FX-R with no problems. I want to do this to my good equipment but I don't want to ruin a new 2.4 GHz receiver by doing the same thing... Any ideas why the receiver died (I mean aside from the obvious)? |

There are tons of us on this forum that use this method with great results. Are you sure the receiver was working befo you did the LET method? Not sounding like a smartass but just asking since I don't see what this would do to cause it to not function correctly.

I have used the Plastidip spray with excellent results.

@AsILayDying: yes I tried it right before I took it apart and coated it. I am wondering if maybe it has to do with the radio components of the unit. There are big components soldered onto the board with adjustment screws on top. I guess these are to do with the radio somehow, like the frequency or something. I'm just not sure I want to try this with my 2.4GHz receiver now... I'm aiming to coat it and a Hitec 7455 SH and I don't want to ruin anything.

Honestly with my servos I just give the exterior like 2-3 coats all over it and around the horn area and I have had no issues. I have friends who open it up and fill with dialectric grease but I just coat the extort and have no issues. This way if I have a problem I can still peel all of it off and send it in for warranty coverage. Good luck though.

I would use Corrosion X instead of liquid electrical tape. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk |

The liquid electrical tape will seperate and needs to be stirred sometimes. Maybe you applied too much of the thinner material because of this

Where do I find corrosion x? I searched lowes, home depot, ace hardware and autozone with no luck. Is it an online only kind of item?

| Re: Receiver Dead after liquid electrical tape Grainger I believe sells Corrosion X. I had a similar problem with my AX-2 system, worked fine until I liquid taped it. Would not even power up after i coated it. Took it home and peeled the tape off and worked perfectly. I got fed up and ended up putting it in a balloon.
