What kind of rig?

1.9, 2.2, Super, scaler, FoFF???????

Do you have an external BEC?

What ESC are you running?

Are you running LiPO, if so, is it 1S, 2S, 3S or more??

I would say (this is MY opinion) a 1.9 would do fine with a HiTec 7955, a 2.2 is looking for ~300inoz+, super-----wellIt's a Super, go big or go home , scaler, 200inoz+.

Are you just comparing the two hitec's you mentioned? If so they are practically the same except the 7990 uses a magnetic digital encoder to be more precise, it does require more power overall as it will try to be more precise when centering or in movement and this could shorten your run times a bit over the 7980. I personally have a 7980, it was a little cheaper and has the same ratings get ready to break stuff

After stripping a few 7954SH's I just took a gamble on a Savox SB-2270SG. 444 oz/inch @ 7.4 volts with a .12 transit time. Should be here soon.

Very cheap given the specs. $85 straight from Savox's site.
