Are Lipos Dangerous?? I bought a new Axial Dingo. My son has a Redcat RS10XT. i am wanting to upgrade to lipos. I want longer run time, would like to get 60 mins plus on a battery. I don't know what the smallest battery I could do that with but I know I could do it on 2s 20c 5000 lipos. lipos appear to be about 1/2 the money as a NiHm. I was all set to order when the search happend just one more time....that when I read of small explosion, fire, problems. are these safe or what? sky lipos good? should I go hard case or regular? I Know the kit I bought has the 2.4 radio so Im 99% sure it has the upgraded esc. if it doesnt I will buy a lipo cut off also. btw I also plan to get thunder ac6... |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? If you take care of them then they are relatively safe. Its when you over charge them or over discharge them that you will run into problems. Check out the stickies in this forum and you can read all about it! Or try the search feature in the upper right...This has been gone over before. |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? They can be when not taken care of properly, it's just when you don't know what you are doing that you run into problems, also make sure to buy a lipo safe bag as this is good back up. They sell them on the same sight you are getting the charger |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? I have had a nimh pack burn up a rig before. Never with a lipo! I think it's a toss up really. |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? Lipos are not dangerous. Plus they are smaller, lighter, and more energy dense. |

I had nimh batteries charging on the wall and both batteries exploded literally blowing off the wall and just missed my head. As already said just take car of them. |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? Plus your boy can run lipos on his rig as well, just need an in-expensive Lipo alarm as the ESC in his rig doesn't have an LVC. 2s-4s RC Lipo Battery Low Voltage Buzzer Alarm | eBay |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? Just dint poke holes in them and you will be fine. |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? just bought a pair of the low volt alarms. guess im vested now! |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? Welcome to the sickness. :ror: |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? Don't short , don't poke holes, don't overdischarge (under 3.00v per cell), use correct charger and you will be fine |
Re: Are Lipos Dangerous?? I had low volt on a lipo so i try-ed to trick my charger to charge it bad idea it blew up the lipo that is at least i had it in a tin can. just allot of smoke and made a burn mark where it was sitting:mrgreen: |
When you store your LiPo's, add a little electrical tape over the balance tap and the connector if you have more than one in the bag. Had one puff up on me the other day, one of the connectors (micro deans) had managed to bridge one of a 2S packs cells through the tap. No fire, just a puffed cell.
