Default Newbie BEC Question

I've just purchased a Castle 10A BEC to go with my mmp, Novak 13.5 crawler and 7950 setup and am a bit confused. Should I wire the BEC directly to the servo or plug it into the receiver? If to the receiver is the preferred method, what wires do I unplug for the ESC? Thanks in advance for helping a newbie and might seem strange to purchase a BEC without complete understanding but I've read enough to realize this should protect my electronics for a very small investment.

You can do it either way. Plugging the BEC into the receiver is the easiest. You pull the middle pin on the ESC Rx plug.

Wiring the BEC power wire directly to the servo, while using the ESC BEC to power the Rx, will give you the most power to the servo. It's just a little more work. Chris_The_Battery_Man makes a trick little connector that will do this without any cutting/splicing.

Thanks Cordwood. I do not mind doing the extra work if it's better to wire directly to the servo; any advantage to wiring direct to the receiver? Also, does Chris_The_Battery_Man have a website? Did a search on this site and didn't find him.

He's a vendor. Look HERE

One advantage is you can easily unplug the servo and BEC if either needs programming.

I just got a CC BEC a couple weeks ago. I hooked it up as shown on the instruction card that came with it, except instead of pluggin the BEC into channel 2 on the receiver I plugged it into the BATT input. The servo is plugged into the receiver as normal. Works good

Oh man!! ALL this time I've been wiring it to the RX...and it's a PITA to make changes. That's an awesome little connector I'll keep that in mind on my next build.

Hopefully you pulled out the ESC power wire on the Rx plug...

Thanks, I did. It showed pulling that wire out on the instruction card.

I have many rigs set up that way and I have had no issues. I limit the voltage to 6.5V though.

When running more voltage to the servo I prefer to wire the BEC direct to the servo. That way I lessen the chance of doing something bad to my receiver.

I'm sorry to hijack the thread....but how do you wire the BEC directly to the servo? Somehow, the receiver and servo have to communicate....I would like to learn about this if you don't mind explaining.

Ok, I just found a diagram of how to wire the BEC right to the servo. Here it is if anyone is interested: Castle BEC to servo wiring diagram - Oregon R/C Rock Crawlers

If I ever get a beefy, high voltage servo I may wire mine like this.

Thanks for the help guys, greatly appreciate it! The BEC should be here tomorrow. If I do set it up through the receiver, will it cause any damage at 7? Really want it there to maximize the servo's potential.
