4PL losing signal
 

Ok, so i did a search with no such luck. the problem i am having is that the receiver loses signal while my stuff is just sitting on my bench. I have everything on, everything functions as it should. but it loses signal for about 2 seconds every 45 to 60 seconds. it does this while it is sitting on my bench while i just sit and stare and it does the same while driving. also this is hapening on two seperate vehicles (separate receivers same transmitter)

This is quite frustrating!!! HELP! :x

When you say, "Lose signal", what do you mean?

Do the lights/LED's go off?
Does the ESC reboot/chime?

Does it do the same thing outside?
Do you have any 2.4ghz things around, like a wireless network router?
Are the TX batteries good?
Do they both have the same type/brand/model ESC? If so, what?

When everything is on and running proper the rec (futaba R2104GF S-FHSS) has a green light that is on. When the problem occurs the light goes to red and the truck loses function (throttle and steering) but the lights on the speed control stay on so it still has power. this has happened at the track with 2 seperate vehicles with their own receivers as well as on the bench at my house.

It really sounds like you need an external BEC (most of us use a Castle Creations 10Amp BEC) because you are experiencing RX "brownout".

This means you are overdriving the ESC internal BEC, thus the RX sorta dies along with everything else.

Do a search in this forum for brownout.

I understand the theory behind using a BEC, got one on my other rig. but it does not make sence how this is happening while my rig is sitting idle on the bench???

Also i only have a cheap traxxas servo in it as well

OK, I looked over the 4PL manual here.... http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/4pl-2_4ghz-manual.pdf

Page 23 shows that the red LED means no or weak TX signal.

I would check each battery in the TX (even new ones can be bad) as well as the connection from the batteries to the battery tray.

This makes sense since 2 different rigs do the same but it's the same TX.8)

Sounds like that could possibly be the culprit. I do not have the manual to check (now i do ;-) ) I will try new batteries this weekend.

Hope it helps....if not, my son runs a 4PL on a dual ESC MOA as well as a couple of other rigs.
I think I can get him to do some tests on his system.;-)

Well i took out the LiFe battery and put in some new AA's and I still have the same issue. I even pulled the receiver and put it in my crawler that is equipped with a BEC.

Mine does the exact same thing with the R2104gf receiver in my short course truck. Got the same model receiver in my XR10 and have never had the problem. So this makes me believe my receiver in the SC has a problem. Like you, the symptom will occur on the bench without even running the vehicle at all. Ive timed it and it happens at different intervals of time like anywhere from 45 seconds to 2 minutes. Ive had the receiver several months but bought it used, and it just started doing this the other day. Im gonna buy a new receiver and hopefully that will fix my problem.

Try rebinding it. Also, does it happen in the same area. Can you make sure you don't have any big electrical equipment near or power wires above you or WIFI, router, cell phones. Maybe call Futaba and ask for some advice.

Not to hijack his thread, but since we have the same problem, in my case it does it everywhere, on the pit table at the track, driving on the track, on my workbench in my garage, driving around in my driveway, just everywhere.

are the antenna on the RX being shortened?

is the antenna on the Tx in good shape?
