Default Noob Question..

Hi all,

Just FYI.. I'm 36, getting back into RCs after a long break, I've never heard of lipos before my new truck. So, I'm not some dummass kid who asks stupid questions before trying to figure it out on there own. I'm also an electronics technician at work, so I'm not just some fool asking stupid new questions.

that out of the way.

I bought a brandy new Losi Night Crawler.

Since I bought it, I've broken a lot of stuff, first was the steering servo, that lasted like 5 minutes, replaced it with a 7955tg. Then broke the steering links. Then broke the ESC somehow. It would just flash 4 red blinks when trying to start it up. So, I bought a brushless set up off of EBay for 83$ delivered. I figured it was cheap, and junky, but I'm not doing any comp stuff, just back yard bashing, so it'd be good enough.

Well, whenever I get it into any sort of torquey situation, it chatters. wont' go anywhere, do anything, just chatters. I've made a bunch of adjustments to timing and such, went from 15 to 22.5 degrees of timing, and same thing. I'm gonna ask this guy to take it back, but wanna make sure first I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm not a rich guy, bunch of kids, and big bills, so spending some big money on a comp worthy set up isn't really worth it.

What do you guys think? I have a brushless velineon traxxas set up that I tried and got the same results, although the crawler was wicked fast on the 3s lipo pack.... but still chattered under torquey situations. I disconnected the steering servo to make sure that wasn't pulling too much power, but the exact same results trying to climb my fireplace mantel, which I could do with the brushed set up..

what do I do? get this guy to take this setup back and buy a new brushed ESC, or can I make some adjustment to make the brushless setup work???

Thanks all,
Len

Search for "cogging". It's likely what you're seeing and is common to a sensorless brushless setup.

For a worm drive rig, I would NOT recommend getting a brushed motor (even a good one), the worm drives seem to eat brushed motors fast.

Most BL systems don't have good drag brake, but the worm drive provides that.

Search in the LCC forum and see what most there are running. No need to reinvent the wheel.
