| Traxxas vxl brushless issue
A lot of you on here I know have more R/C's than just crawlers. I put this Traxxas vxl brushless in my SC10 and it ran fine on 2S or 3S for a long time. Finally stripped the idler gear in the trans so I just put it on the shelf for a long time. Just recently I fixed the trans and took the truck out and noticed a huge lack of speed. Then I noticed it would go full power if I go full throttle-let off-and go full throttle again real fast. So after eliminating receiver, radio problems by trying others I figure it must be the motor/ESC combo. Called traxxas support and the guy on the phone tells me its supposed to do that. Like a hidden second gear he says. I asked why it didn't do it till just now and he said he wasn't sure but its supposed to be like it is now. Is he full of crap or is there something wrong with my setup? Anyone else had this issue? Thanks, Todd |

Not sure on that ESC, but does it have a boost/cheat mode?

I'd charge up a 3S lipo and with it warm (like above 60 degrees) plug it in, do a radio calibration and ESC set up and quickly run it outside and see if it does it again.

I had one start to do that on my slash. It sounds like its jumping from training mode to full speed.

The button to turn it on has been know to cause problems.

The VXL in my Rustler lost a great deal of power after sitting on the shelf for months.

Ive tried recalibrating. Setting it to a different mode then putting it back. always does the same thing. I think I'm just out of luck. And all of my lipos are in my room. Always 65 or warmer in there.

Put it in one of those Associated RC10s you have and sell the thing.

Have you checked that it's not in training mode? When I had my Slash 4x4, I accidentally put it in training mode a couple of times.

Hey brother, Sorry to hear about your troubles. Heres what Id do. I've had every VXL out there btw. Id first change my Rx or Tx to eliminate those if you have a spare one laying around, its quick and easy and could give the answer right away. Im assuming this is the 2.4ghz and not the 27mhz correct? If it still has the same issue Id go through disconnect and reconnect everything. Rebind the RX and TX and then re calibrate the ESC. Make sure also to make sure its NOT in training mode. Its sounds more like a radio signal problem so make sure your rx antenna doesn't have any cuts or vital bends in it. makes sure its as high as it can get and make sure its not wrapped around any other electronics, this can easily cause signal interference. Also make sure to open up the rx box to make sure you have no moisture in there. Its common and makes the RX act crazy. Check these things and you should find your answer, had this issue a few times but i was rolling with the 27mhz setup. Sounds like a RX TX to me. Traxxas guy shouldn't be on the phone. LIK |

To the other replies. I've tried the ESC in two separate radios. Doesn't matter if it's up the street or in my lap. The modes. There's only three. I've switched it several times and switched it back. Only thing I have yet to try is see if it does the same thing in race mode. I don't want to run without reverse but I'll give that a shot. Also as far as moisture. It's been splashed a few times but never dunked. Also it ran fine long before it was put away after it's hit puddles.

This may sound silly, but have you checked the settings on your Tx to make sure you haven't got a heap of exponential dialed in. I know i had a mate, that had a similar thing happen when he 'accidentally' cranked his exponential almost all the way up. It caused almost 2stroke powerband effect when he pulled the trigger. |

I've checked all settings. Does the same thing no matter what radio. I've definitely narrowed it down to the ESC it's not a question of what's causing it I was asking if it's normal or if people were having the same issues. It definitely sounds like mine is messed up. |
