Default Axial 27T motor on 3S?

Anyone successfully running the 27T motors on 3S? I know they will run, but do they actually keep running? Currently I have 2S LiPo batteries and plan to buy a few more packs and deciding between 2S and 3S.

I'm actually going to run dual 27T stock Axial motors on 2S in my XR10 to see if I like the extra wheel speed (got the motors for a great deal) and to see if they have decent torque. I know that lots of folks run 35T motors with 3S and I may fall back to that if the trial doesn't go the way I wanted.

I want to buy 3S packs because I have a feeling I may end up with the Holmes 35T motors and I know that's a good setup. I'm just trying to see if I can get by with the 27T motors now and run 3S without killing them immediately. By the way, the 2S will still be run in my son's AX10.

Thanks.

Yes they will run for a while.
No, you likely won't be happy with the torque. You can drop a few teeth (from normal) to get torque back to allow for the 27T torque drop.

If you were looking for motors, I would usually say to start with decent 35T motors.

Do your ESC's handle the 3S??

I burnt out my dirt tuned tamiya motor so I swapped in the stock 27t axial and it was awesome for about 10 seconds, still works, just not awesome.

I have dual Castle Sidewinder SCT so they shouldn't have any trouble with the 35t motors. Maybe I'll get it up and running with the 27t motors and a 12t pinion (smallest the XR10 will take) then switch to the 35t motors when I buy my 3S batteries and new pinions.

Fred, so you're saying you scorched the brushes on the stock 27t motor with 3S?

Like I said, they were a good deal so I want to test them out. The nice thing is while tuning it I'll mostly just be driving it around the yard so should be ok if it's too low on torque.

I fried mine on 3s too, it might have lived an hour. But boy was it fun while it lasted.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'll give the 27T's a whirl on 2S then order my 3S packs and my 35T motors later (sooner if the motors don't last on 2S).
